Sailing North Route from Zadar, Croatia - 14 Day Journey

Day 1: Zadar - Galevac Island

If you choose to spend your first night in the Marina, take advantage of the late afternoon to explore the enchanting Zadar Old Town. A leisurely stroll through its charming streets offers a chance to marvel at key landmarks, including The Sea Organ, Greeting to the Sun, Church of St. Donat,… and museums such as the Museum of Ancient Glass, Museum of Illusions, Captain's Tower and more. Cap off your evening with a delightful Mediterranean dinner at esteemed restaurants such as Proto, Giardin, Bruschetta, Pet bunara, Kornat, or Foša.

Alternatively, if you prefer to embark on your journey immediately, we suggest a brief boat ride to a nearby place for overnight stay such as Galevac Island, Preko, or Poljana.

To ensure smooth preparation for the upcoming days, we highly recommend securing an online ticket for NP Kornati in advance at https://my-sea.com/en. For easier booking, each boat has a unique code that contains all necessary boat info, conveniently accessible in your boarding pass or boat documents book. Additionally, please be mindful to have cash on hand, as cashless payments are not accepted on the Kornati islands.

Day 1: Zadar - Galevac Island

Day 2: Galevac Island - Vrgada - Kakan / Kaprije

Even though the plan is to head north, we're making a detour south first, compelled by the irresistible allure of the Kornati archipelago's breathtaking beauty. Our journey takes us along the charming island of Ugljan, then past the scenic shores of Pašman, and through the captivating Biograd Gate - an exquisite segment of the Adriatic Sea.

Should you decide to take a refreshing swim break on any of the islands, be cautious of sea currents, particularly around the heart-shaped "island of love," Galešnjak.

A perfect spot for a break is the island of Vrgada, where you can choose an anchorage based on the wind conditions. Options include a shallow sand anchorage along the island of Artina with an attractive view of Vrgada (beach bar is nearby), the quiet shallow bay in front of the bay of Sv. Andrija (accessible only by dinghy, but offering the best hamburger within 20 NM), or the buoys in Kranje bay, accompanied by a small restaurant.

After a rejuvenating stop, continue your journey towards Kaprije (and Kakan), passing over the Murter Sea where the winds may pick up a little - embrace the experience, you're on a boat! The choice is yours between the small village of Kaprije (on the island of Kaprije) with mooring, electricity, shops, bars, and restaurants, or the serene anchorage along the island of Kakan (islets of Borovnjaci) featuring buoys amidst turquoise waters.

Day 2: Galevac Island - Vrgada - Kakan / Kaprije

Day 3: Kakan / Kaprije - Kornati - Sali

After morning coffee, we commence our journey through the passage between the islands of Smokvica and Kornat, officially entering the Kornati National Park. Often referred to as a "paradise for sailors", the Kornati archipelago will unveil one of the most breathtaking island landscapes and invite you to indulge in a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters.

Exiting the Kornati archipelago is conveniently done through the gateway of Mala Proversa, nestled between Dugi Otok and the island of Katina.

Our route leads us toward the charming town of Sali, where the local restaurants beckon with delightful seafood. Ensure you savor a drink or two at Maritimo, the bar of all sailors. A friendly heads-up: In Sali, you might receive two separate bills for mooring, but rest assured, it's not a scam, it’s a bureaucratic mess!

Alternatively, consider stopping in the scenic bay of Telašćica, part of the Telašćica Nature Park, known for its lush greenery and the enchanting Lake Mir.

Day 3: Kakan / Kaprije - Kornati - Sali

Day 4: Sali - Saharun / Pantera Bay

Dugi Otok is the longest island in the Adriatic. Today, you'll fully grasp why it's rightfully called the Long Island. Embark on a journey towards the enchanting Saharun (Sakarun) Bay, celebrated as one of the most beautiful bays in the middle Adriatic. This idyllic spot is renowned for its pristine white sand and crystal-clear sea, surrounded by pine trees that offer refreshing shade in the summer. Two catering facilities on the beach provide relief from the summer heat and offer light snacks.

As you navigate through this picturesque route, you have the option to explore numerous islands and bays, such as Krknata and Krava, Paladinica Bay, Ovča Bay, Dumboka Bay, Bokašin Bay, visit bunkers for boats near Božava, and enjoy swimming in Dobra Bay. While approaching Saharun Bay, you'll encounter the captivating sight of a sunken boat named Michelle  - an intriguing dive site with the remains of an Italian merchant ship that ran aground around 1983. Exercise caution while anchoring due to slightly stronger currents.

Upon reaching Saharun Bay, secure your boat to a buoy for a tranquil night on the serene waters. In the event of a south wind, consider Pantera Bay as an alternative haven for the night.

Day 4: Sali - Saharun / Pantera Bay

Day 5: Saharun / Pantera Bay - Premuda - Susak / Mali Lošinj

After a restful night on the buoy in Saharun Bay, it's time to embark on new adventures as we set our course toward the captivating island of Premuda. As an outer island, Premuda boasts abundant marine life, making it a haven for fishing enthusiasts. Additionally, it is renowned for its stunning underwater cave known as the "cathedral."

As you approach the island, consider taking a break and enjoying a swim. Choose between the serene bay of Premuda or the waters in front of the port of Krijal to secure your boat to a buoy and revel in the beauty that surrounds you.

After a refreshing break, set sail toward the island of Susak, known for its shallow sandy bays. Explore the inviting Dragoca and Bok bays, perfect for a refreshing swim and a lunch on board. We recommend taking a stroll around the island and visiting scenic lighthouse atop.

Continue towards Mali Lošinj. En route, you'll encounter numerous picturesque bays. If well-supplied, consider anchoring for the night.

Alternatively, if your crew craves the amenities of a marina, including shower, restaurants, and other "civilization" comforts, both the marina and the town of Mali Lošinj are within close reach. While in town, make sure to visit the museum where the impressive statue of Apoxyomenos is exhibited. Additionally, take a stroll along the port where the timeless beauty of the traditional sailing ship Nerezinac adds to the maritime charm.

Day 5: Saharun / Pantera Bay - Premuda - Susak / Mali Lošinj

Day 6: Susak / Mali Lošinj - Pula

After breakfast, we are on our way to Pula, crossing Kvarner. Before setting sail, ensure to check the weather forecast, as Kvarner can swiftly transition from beauty to a beast. Keep an eye out for shoals near the majestic Porer Lighthouse.

Upon arrival, you have the option to dock at ACI Marina Pula, equipped with all the advantages of ACI marinas, or at Tehnomont Marina Veruda in Verudela Bay.

Take the opportunity to explore the city of Pula. Nestled beneath seven hills with views of the Adriatic, Pula boasts unspoiled natural surroundings that exude magic. Renowned for its mild climate and serene sea, Pula has a rich tradition in winemaking, fishing, and shipbuilding. The city is adorned with many ancient Roman buildings, including the well-preserved and magnificent 1st-century amphitheater.

Day 6: Susak / Mali Lošinj - Pula

Day 7: Pula - NP Brijuni - Rovinj

Today's itinerary features two treasures  - NP Brijuni and the city of Rovinj.

Before reaching Rovinj, we make a delightful stop at NP Brijuni. Opting for an organized trip through the national park ensures the best experience of the entire area, a scenic string of islands, enriched with archaeological and cultural wonders. Notably, on Veliki Brijun Island you can even find dinosaur footprints, over 200 of them at four distinct sites!

If you desire a little break from navigating the Adriatic waves, consider using organized transport from Pula (or Rovinj) to Fažana. From Fažana, indulge in organized trips to Brijuni, adding another layer of discovery to your coastal odyssey.

Upon concluding the exploration of Brijuni, we set our course toward Rovinj, where the welcoming ACI Marina Rovinj awaits as your haven for the night. Regarded as one of the “most photogenic” towns in the Mediterranean, Rovinj's old town charms with its cobblestone streets and alleys, colorful houses, charming town squares, art galleries and a lively harbor full of fishing boats. The seafront is adorned with inviting bars and restaurants.

Day 7: Pula - NP Brijuni - Rovinj

Day 8: Rovinj - Medulin

From this point, our journey takes us southward, bound for Medulin.

Once a humble fishing village, Medulin has evolved into a sought-after summer destination, graced by the enchanting blue sea.

Delve into the wonders of the Medulin archipelago, where you can unravel the allure of numerous islets, hidden bays, sandy, pebbled, and rocky beaches, the Cape Kamenjak Nature Park, the secluded Golumera cave, the iconic Porer lighthouse, and the sandy isle of Levan. If luck is on your side, you might be treated to a joyful presence of dolphins playfully navigating the Adriatic waves, a delightful encounter that adds an extra layer of enchantment to your coastal journey.

As the night falls, get ready for a restful night on a buoy.

Day 8: Rovinj - Medulin

Day 9: Medulin - Cres

Today's journey takes us to the town of Cres on the island of Cres, a scenic four-hour navigation.

Along the way, you can make a stop at Blue Cave Beach in Zanja Bay under the town of Lubenice on the island of Cres. The Blue Cave is situated on the edge of the beach, featuring a 20-meter length and a spacious interior. With a small pebble beach inside, the cave is illuminated by sunlight filtering through the rocks, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and water that reflects the beautiful blue hues.

As we approach the town of Cres, situated in the northeast part of a broad and sheltered bay that has historically provided refuge from storms, indulge in a refreshing break at the inviting swimming areas.

Given the limited berths in the port, it's advisable to contact port authorities in advance for a reservation. Once ashore, immerse yourself in the town's charm by strolling through the narrow, winding streets of the old town center that offers a captivating glimpse into the town's rich history.

Day 9: Medulin - Cres

Day 10: Cres - Osor - Kvarner

Rising early is essential today, Skipper, preferably before 06:00, as the Osor Bridge opens at 9:00, and we are currently 20 nautical miles away.

Navigating through Osor, we steer towards the southeastern part of Cres—an exquisite gem in the Kvarner region.

Discover serenity in one of the numerous bays, indulging in a day of swimming and immersing yourself in the embrace of nature's beauty.

Day 10: Cres - Osor - Kvarner

As you explore the town of Punat, you'll discover a delightful fusion of tradition and modern convenience. From quaint local shops to vibrant cafes and restaurants, Punat offers a welcoming atmosphere. Take a leisurely stroll through its streets, where a blend of island charm and maritime allure captivates visitors.

Day 11: Kvarner - Krk

Day 12: Krk - Goli Otok - Rab

Embarking on a different path, our journey takes us towards Goli Otok, a site with a haunting history. Once home to a prison, this barren island earned its name, "Goli Otok" ("Barren Island"), due to its desolate landscape exposed to fierce bura winds. Often referred to as the "Croatian Alcatraz", it shares its notoriety for island isolation and high-security history.

After a trip around this intriguing island, we set our course for Rab. Approaching from the southeast, the town of Rab reveals itself, adorned with four distinctive bell towers and encircled by protective ramparts. Regarded as one of Croatia's gems, Rab invites exploration. As evening approaches, ACI Marina Rab offers a secure haven for the night, with numerous restaurants and a scenic promenade ensuring a relaxing evening.

Day 12: Krk - Goli Otok - Rab

Day 13: Rab - Silba

As we continue our journey down south, our next destination is the enchanting island of Silba. Brace yourself for the longest navigation this week, covering 25 nautical miles to reach the port of Silba.

Upon reaching the island, your lodging options extend beyond the town (port) to the serene bay of Sv. Ante. The island is adorned with a wooded interior, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear blue sea. Notably, the Toreta tower, standing tall in the island's center, known as a monument of love, adds a particularly beautiful touch to the landscape.

Day 13: Rab - Silba

Day 14: Silba - Molat - Zadar

Leaving Silba behind, our next destination is the island of Molat and the serene bay of Jaz. In this beautiful bay, a dinghy pier awaits, providing easy access to the trail leading to Molat—an approximate 10-minute stroll.

With just 16 nautical miles remaining for our return to Zadar, the island of Ugljan offers a couple of inviting small bays for a brief stop, perfect for a refreshing swim. Explore options like Mostir, Ćinta, and Frnaža.

As you approach our base, take the opportunity to refuel. Our dedicated staff awaits your arrival on the pier, ready to assist with the boat handover.

Bravo, Skipper! Another week is behind you, with the last maneuver completed. It's time to unwind with something cold to drink and enjoy a well-deserved dinner in the city. Cheers to a successful journey!
